Applications and Timelines

If you have submitted your course application and/or scholarship application after the deadline, this is ok.

You will automatically be considered in the next round as long as you are either:

  • currently enrolled in your degree, or
  • submitted your request to defer your application for admission to a relevant research period by the deadline for the next round.

Academic Qualifications/Transcripts/Grading scales

If you are currently enrolled in your higher degree by research (HDR) degree you will need to provide your academic qualifications, transcripts and grading scales from your previous tertiary studies in your scholarship application.

If you are not currently enrolled but submitted your complete application for admission to a higher degree by research (HDR) degree at the University of Sydney, you do not need to provide these documents.

Evidence of publications, output in the arts or music, professional experience - optional

If you have scholarly publications, significant output in the art or music areas and/or relevant professional or direct research experience, you need to complete the Research Experience Information Template (word doc, 104kb) to provide information about your research outputs. Follow the instructions, criteria and examples provided in the Research Experience Information and Appendix Guide (word doc, 66kb).

Further Information

The University accepts scanned documents submitted online for your scholarship application.

All supporting documents must be true and complete records. You should be prepared to provide original documents or original certified copies of supporting documents upon request at any time.

Detailed checking of supporting documents is an inherent element of our scholarship ranking processes and may involve contacting the original issuing authority or relevant tertiary admissions centre, or other organisation (whether education or otherwise), or individual, whether in Australia or overseas, to verify documents.

A failure to provide documents on request, or the discovery of either fraudulent documents or a misrepresentation of true circumstances in association with your application, may lead to the rejection of your application for admission/scholarship, the withdrawal of your offer, or the cancellation of your enrolment.

Documents submitted in a language other than English must be accompanied by a complete English translation. The University accepts translations to English made by an accredited translator with a government body, the Registrar of the issuing institution.

Outcomes

Please review our Application and Award Timeline

The Scholarships Office cannot pre-assess your RTP application. Only a submitted application can be assessed against published eligibility requirements and ranked against applicants for the intake(s) under consideration. The outcome of application will only be released following the committee meeting.

The University does not provide specific ranking outcomes apart from notifications to successful and unsuccessful applicants. Applicants are encouraged to refer to the Applicant Information Pack and HDR scholarship selection process for questions related to scholarship award process.

We strongly recommend reviewing the following guides if you plan to reapply for a scholarship.

There are many scholarship options available beyond the RTP and equivalent University scholarships. Browse postgraduate research scholarships for domestic and international students.

If you are successful in receiving a scholarship, you will be sent the scholarship offer by email. You will need to follow the instructions in the email on how to accept your scholarship.

Your scholarship payments will be made on a fortnightly basis into your nominated Australian bank account from the start date of your scholarship.

Deferrals and Transfers

You can defer your scholarship to a later research period, as long as it is within the same calendar year in which it was originally offered.

No, the scholarship funds were awarded to your original university and do not transfer with you. You will need to follow the University of Sydney scholarship application process.
