Background

The Faculty of Health Sciences Student Leadership Award is awarded to students who have demonstrated sustained and outstanding student leadership while studying in the Faculty of Health Sciences at the University of Sydney.

1. Description

a. The Faculty of Health Sciences Student Leadership Award is awarded to students who have demonstrated sustained and outstanding student leadership whilst studying in the Faculty of Health Sciences at the University of Sydney.

2. Eligibility criteria

a. Applicants must be enrolled at the University of Sydney at the time of their application.

b. Applicants must have engaged in leadership activities that further the goals and values of the University of Sydney in their discipline or profession and/or on a health-related community issue.

c. Applicants may nominate themselves or be nominated by a peer or academic staff member of the University of Sydney.

3. Selection criteria

a. The Prize will be awarded based on prior academic merit, a personal statement and evidence provided of leadership activities.

b. The successful applicant(s) will be selected from a selection committee consisting of two nominated Faculty academic staff members, one academic staff member from outside the faculty and two student representatives from the faculty’s Student Staff Consultative Committee. The selection committee will be chaired by the Associate Dean Student Life.

4. Value

a. This Award has a value of $1000 and will be paid as a one-off payment in December of the same year that award is made.

b. No other amount is payable.

c. The Award will be awarded subject to the availability of funds.

5. Ongoing eligibility

a. None apply.

6. Termination

a. The University reserves the right to withdraw the Award, if the University determines that the student is guilty of serious misconduct, including, but not limited to, having provided false or misleading information that has a relationship to the awarding of this Award.

b. Once withdrawn the Award will not be reinstated.

7. Other requirements

a. Successful recipients will be invited to address future student groups and engage in alumni activities.

b. Successful recipients must be willing to be profiled in faculty and University publications and websites and to share their experiences with current students and staff.
