Biographical details

Emi is an applied statistician whose research interest is in developing high impact statistical methods and useful, easy-to-use tools for application in bioinformatics, biometrics and biology with a particular focus on agriculture. She enjoys working in a collaborative environment with people from diverse backgrounds, with an aim to enhance knowledge and understanding of the real world data.

Emi received her PhD in Statistics at the University of Sydney focussing on statistical methods for the analysis of DNA sequence motifs. She then worked within the Statistics for the Australian Grains Industry group at the University of Wollongong providing specialist statistical inputs to various agricultural experiments.

Emi recently joined the Statistics Research Group in the School of Mathematics and Statistics at the University of Sydney.

Research interests

Emi's current research interests are:

  • linear mixed models - in particular with application in agriculture
  • factor analytic models
  • statistical computing - in particular with speeding up parameter estimation in linear mixed models
  • experimental design
  • statistical genetics and genomics
