Biographical details

Mafruha has a PhD from Macquarie University (Molecular Sciences), MSc from The University of Manchester (Biotechnology) and a BSc (Hons) from Monash University (Biotechnology). She worked as a high school teacher and a Science Officer at ACI Agribusinesses (Bangladesh) prior to pursuing her PhD. As a Science Officer Mafruha prompted research and development activities around late blight-resistant potato varieties for commercial production in Bangladesh. For her PhD, Mafruha focused on analysis of metabolites, algal proteomics and metabolic pathways from the freshwater microalga Euglena gracilis. She joined the University of Sydney in 2018 as a Postdoctoral Research Associate, working on protease and protease inhibitor interactions in the barley/barley leaf rust pathosystem.

Research interests

Mafruha’s research interests include high-throughput proteomics, protein profiling, molecular cloning and functional study of genes, and biochemical analysis of metabolites. Her current project uses activity based protein profiling to decipher protease and protease inhibitor interactions between barley andPuccinia hordei.
