Biographical details

Mang Shi is currently a senior research associate at the Charles Perkins Center. He is also an adjunct faculty at the China CDC as well as Shanghai Public Health Clinical Centre. Prior to joining the University of Sydney, Mang was an ORISE fellow and Guest researcher at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in the United States. Mang received his undergraduate and Mphil degree from the University of Hong Kong and his Ph.D. from the University of Sydney.

Research interests

Mang’s research is mainly focused on the evolutionary history and ecological dynamics of RNA viruses. His work uses genomics, metagenomics, and meta-transcriptomics tools for virus discovery and characterization, based on which he reveals and re-defines the diversity and evolutionary history of the RNA virosphere. He is also interested in using the same approaches to characterize the interaction between virome, microbiome, and hosts within an infected individual.
