Research interests

My current research interests aim to integrate my research background in child psychopathology and my clinical and personal training in mindfulness-based approaches. Currently, my main interests are the effect of dispositional mindfulness and mindfulness training on relationships. I am interested in finding out whether mindfulness can reduce parenting stress and improve co-parenting and marital relationships.

At the same time, I maintain my interests in researching the nature and measurement of negative emotional states (such as anxiety, depression, stress and anger), and their association with metacognition and with various healthy and unhealthy emotion regulation practices.

Teaching and supervision

I teach topics related to mental health across all levels of the undergraduate and postgraduate curriculum. At undergraduate levels, I teach in PSYC1002, PSYC2X10 (Brain and Behaviour) and PSYC3018 (Abnormal Psychology). My main teaching responsibility is PSYC3018, a large senior Abnormal Psychology unit that I have been coordinating since 2003. In addition, I supervise empirical research projects at 4th year Honours, Masters, and at PhD levels. I have an interest in developing innovative online teaching approaches, such as creating new Open Learning Environment units on topics related to mental health and wellbeing.
