Biographical details

Dr. Rebekah Laidsaar-Powell is a Postdoctoral Research Associate, working towards improving the outcomes of individuals with chronic illness and their family caregivers. She completed her Honours and PhD in Psychology at The University of Sydney.

I am currently a Postdoctoral Research Associate at the University of Sydney working on an ARC discovery project looking at family involvement in cancer consultations and decision-making. My PhD was also in this area. I am passionate about supporting individuals living with a chronic illness and their family members.
I also lecture in undergraduate health psychology, across a range of topic areas including models of health behaviour, health interventions, qualitative research, health inequalities, illness and young people, and the experiences of family caregivers. I have tutored for the School of Psychology for a number of years. I find teaching psychology students to be a highly rewarding, energising, and inspiring experience.
My aim is to continue engaging in rigorous, practical and high impact medical psychology research projects whilst also teaching at a tertiary level.
