Graduation

Graduating in absentia

If you are unable to attend your graduation ceremony, you will graduate in absentia.  This means your degree is conferred and we will either post your documents to you or make them available for collection from the Student Centre.

We post documents within three weeks of conferral. If you are collecting your documents from the Student Centre, they will be available seven working days after conferral.

Request to graduate in absentia

If you know in advance that you will not be able to attend your ceremony, you may be able to have your degree conferred at an earlier date. Please refer to the In absentia conferral schedule listed below.

You can submit a request to graduate in absentia through Sydney Student (go to ‘My studies’, then ‘Assessments’). You have until the following dates to submit a request:

  • 24 August, where you completed your studies in Semester 1 of the same year
  • 23 February, where you completed your studies in Semester 2 of the previous year.

If you miss the deadline, you will be able to elect to graduate in absentia when your invitation to graduate arrives.

Missing your graduation ceremony

If you don't respond to your invitation to graduate, your degree will be conferred on your graduation date. We will send your documents to the address nominated in your Sydney Student account. Make sure your address is up to date at least a week before your graduation.
