Special consideration and arrangements

Outcomes

The outcome of your special consideration application will be sent to your University email account. If your application is approved, the details of your consideration will be provided. This might, for example, be an extension of time, a replacement exam, or a new or varied evaluation.

If you make repeated requests for special consideration, you may be referred to your faculty or school for an academic progression review and additional support.

Below are some examples of the kind of outcomes you may receive.

Assessment type, action and consideration

Your action:

  • attended an exam and was affected by illness, injury or misadventure
  • did not attend on the day of the exam due to illness, injury or misadventure.

Consideration that may be granted:

  • replacement exam.

The replacement exam may not cover the same topics as the exam that was impacted, but will test the same learning outcomes. Other factors (such as the length, duration or structure of the exam) may also be different.

If you're unable to attempt the replacement exam due to illness, injury or misadventure, you should apply for special consideration in respect of the replacement exam.

Your action:

  • attended a replacement exam and was affected by illness, injury or misadventure
  • did not attend on the day of a replacement exam due to illness, injury or misadventure.

Consideration that may be granted:

  • alternative means of assessment (if possible)
  • discontinued not to count as failure (DC).

If you are granted a replacement exam which you don't attend, and you don't apply for further consideration, you will be given a result of zero for the final exam. Any previous results that you received for the exam will no longer apply once you've been granted a replacement.
