Guaranteed ATAR

Select your UAC preferences with confidence

To help you make informed decisions and provide transparency, we have published a list of guaranteed ATAR or IB scores that will guarantee admission to most of our courses in 2018. The future is in your hands – it’s yours for the taking.

To be offered a place in a guaranteed-ATAR course, all you need to do is list the course as your first preference when you apply, and then achieve the guaranteed ATAR, IB or equivalent score in your Year 12 studies.

Note that not all of our courses have guaranteed ATARs, as some have limited places and/or additional selection criteria.

Everything you need to know about guaranteed ATARs

Being upfront about the ATAR enables you to put your dream course as your first preference with confidence. This means that you have complete transparency when choosing your course preferences and you can make informed decisions about your future. No need to hold off on accepting an offer until later UAC rounds.

The ATARs shown at the bottom of this page guarantee admission to the University (except where marked with an asterisk) and will not change throughout the preference and admissions period, which includes the December, January and February UAC rounds.

The guaranteed ATAR is the lowest rank to receive an offer for your chosen course. If you achieve the guaranteed ATAR and place Sydney as your first preference, you will be made an offer through UAC.

All domestic and international applicants applying on the basis of a current senior secondary or Year 12 qualification, such as the NSW Higher School Certificate (HSC), International Baccalaureate (IB) or equivalent are eligible. Additionally, applicants with a Year 12 qualification who have not undertaken any tertiary studies are eligible.

We have published a guaranteed ATAR for most of our courses. For others, there may be a limited number of places where an offer of a place cannot be guaranteed. Indicative ATARs for those courses will be made available during the UAC offer period. If a score is not listed as guaranteed, an indicative score will be provided as a guide and a higher score may be needed to gain admission into these courses.

The guaranteed ATAR will apply to all UAC offer rounds the University participates in. We will continue to update our website with vacancies and available courses, however the ATAR will remain unchanged and will not be lowered in later UAC rounds.

You will be notified by UAC if you are successful in gaining an offer. Refer to the UAC website for further information on their timelines and notification periods.

If you’re an interstate student and you meet the published guaranteed ATAR, you will be made an offer to your eligible course. Guaranteed IB scores are listed on this page and will not fluctuate during the offer and admissions period. IB students will be made offers in January if they have achieved the equivalent guaranteed ATAR.

Guaranteed scores apply to international students who have completed a senior secondary or year 12 qualification accepted by the University (such as the IB or GCE A Levels). The guaranteed scores will not apply to international applicants who have also undertaken tertiary studies.

Most courses will have guaranteed admission score for a specific year, provided all criteria such as English language proficiency and additional selection criteria are also met. Scores for courses listed with an asterisk (*) are indicative scores for admission only. These scores are a guide only and a higher score may be needed to gain admission into these courses. Additionally, some courses may have a limited number of places where an offer of a place cannot be guaranteed. To find out about courses that have guaranteed scores, check the international undergraduate admission criteria

The ATARs or equivalent scores are not published for all courses with additional selection criteria (eg, portfolio, audition, interview). Where scores are published for courses listed as A+C, we will indicate if the score is guaranteed or indicative (indicative scores are asterisked). Even if an ATAR or equivalent score is met, the additional selection criteria must be satisfied to be considered for admission. Refer to the relevant course website for detailed information on additional selection criteria.

You will receive an offer from UAC for your highest eligible preference only. Therefore, if you meet the requirements for your highest preference, that is the course you will receive an offer for. You should always place your preferred course as your first preference, as we are unable to offer you a place if you are eligible for a higher preference.

The ATARs or equivalent scores are not published for all courses with additional selection criteria. Where scores are published for courses listed as A+C, we will indicate if the score is guaranteed or indicative. Scores that are listed with an asterisk (*) are indicative scores only. These are a guide only and a higher score may be needed to gain admission into these courses. Even if an ATAR or equivalent score is met, the additional selection criteria must be satisfied to be considered for admission.

Refer to Sydney Courses for detailed information on additional selection criteria.

There is always more than one path to your goal. You should consider admission pathways such as commencing in a different course and applying to transfer after a year of completed higher education studies. For further information, refer to our admission pathways website.
