Get prepared for university at Welcome

Set yourself up for success
Find out everything you need to know about university life by attending essential orientation sessions, workshops and events at Welcome.

Our Welcome Program is your opportunity to familiarise yourself with the University of Sydney, learn about the facilities, services and resources available to you, meet staff in your faculty or school, connect with fellow students and immerse yourself in uni life.

Here’s everything you need to know to make the most out of Welcome.

Plan your schedule

To ensure you don’t miss out on essential preparations, head to the Welcome Planner and register for workshops and events to create your personalised schedule.

In Semester 2 2024, Welcome will take place between Monday 15 and Tuesday 30 July. Our Extended Welcome Program will then continue into Week 4 of the semester. You'll need to register for some activities ahead of time, so don't leave planning your schedule to the last minute.

Don’t miss your faculty or school welcome

Take advantage of your Faculty and School Welcome Program, where you’ll find out all you need to know about your course, meet fellow students and academic staff and receive mentoring from senior students in your area of study.

Take notes on important locations such as faculty or school buildings, key dates and the names of academic staff who are here to help you, like your undergraduate coordinator.

The Faculty and School Welcome Program starts Monday 22 July and runs until Tuesday 30 July. Use the filtering tool on the Welcome planner to find faculty or school welcome activites that apply to you and add them to your schedule.

Attend information sessions and workshops

Want to know how to get the most out of your lectures and tutorials? Or are you keen to brush up on your research, writing and referencing skills? Join information sessions and workshops from Student Life, the Library, Learning Hub, Careers Centre and more throughout Welcome to help you transition to university.

You’ll also have the opportunity to learn about all the support services and resources available to you at the University. It’s important to take the time early in semester to identify support services you may need, so you’re set for success during the academic year.

Register for information sessions and workshops at Welcome.

Complete modules on the Life@Sydney Canvas site

Navigate your first semester with our Life@Sydney Canvas site. Life@Sydney is your go-to guide that will help you prepare for all aspects of your life at the University of Sydney. Find out about student life, wellbeing, studying and getting set up in Sydney, and learn about your strengths and motivations as well as your rights and responsibilities as a student.

Explore campus

Did you know that our main Camperdown/Darlington campus is so big it has its own postcode – 2006?

Attending Welcome is a good chance to explore campus and get your bearings so you don’t wander into the wrong lecture theatre on the first day of semester. Find your way to and around our campuses, and locate buildings, classrooms, study spaces and food outlets on Campus Maps.

You should also take the chance to visit our Student Centre, where the team can assist you with administrative matters like getting your student card, reviewing your class timetables, finding out about exams support, and understanding HECS and other fees. You’ll find the Student Centre on Level 3 of the Jane Foss Russell Building on the Darlington side of our main campus.

Don’t forget to log into our Wi-Fi network for free unlimited access while on campus using your UniKey and password.

The Student Centre

Visit the Student Centre on Level 3 of Jane Foss Russell (JFR) Building for support and advice during Welcome.

Got a question?

Don’t be afraid to ask. Feel free to approach student volunteers or our friendly staff and ask about anything you can’t find or figure out during Welcome. They can usually be identified by a staff lanyard, a nametag, an "Ask Me" badge or a volunteer t-shirt.

Know where to find support

Whether it’s your first time at university or you’re returning to study, we’re here to support your transition to the University of Sydney. We offer a range of support services and resources, including health and wellbeing support, financial support, and more.
