Early Offer Year 12 (E12) Scheme

Make your path to university easier

Receive a conditional offer before the HSC exams even finish and benefit from a $5950 scholarship in your first year.

The Early Offer Year 12 (E12) Scheme will help ease the financial pressure of studying in your first year and gives you plenty of support with enrolment, orientation as well as other areas of student life.

If you apply successfully to E12, we will hold a place at the University of Sydney for you. You'll have a confirmed place when results are released providing you meet some conditions, such as the E12 ATAR (lower than the guaranteed ATAR) and HSC subject requirements for your preferred course.

There are over 90 courses (pdf, 60KB) you can apply for through E12, giving you lots of options. They include business, engineering, health sciences, nursing, arts, science, law, agriculture, education, design computing, architecture and the creative arts.

  • An early conditional offer of a place at university, in mid-November
  • A formal UAC offer in the main offer round (if you achieve the required E12 ATAR (pdf, 60KB) and meet any other additional requirements)
  • A $5950 first-year scholarship paid in two equal instalments of $2975 after the semester 1 and semester 2 census dates (subject to terms and conditions)
  • Support through your transition from school to the University, including a guided enrolment process, orientation and further assistance
  • A University of Sydney Union Access Rewards membership for your first year that gives discounts on and off the campus with major retailers, and access to more than 200 clubs and societies
  • Eligibility to apply for additional accommodation scholarships available to successful E12 students
Faculty support
  • Some faculties offer additional scholarships to E12 recipients beyond their first year at university
  • You may also have access to paid internships with business and corporate partners as part of your degree, giving you an invaluable start to your career
  • Welcome session for students and their parents or support people (in conjunction with orientation)
  • 'On track' meeting with Course Director or Year 1 liaison academic during semester if required

We know an ATAR score may not always reflect your ability to do well at university or your interest or skills in a particular area. E12 is your chance to show us what makes you unique.

We believe that your community involvement and activities outside of school tell us just as much about you as your exam results, so please share this in your E12 application. Your application for E12 is your opportunity to tell us more about yourself and what motivates you.

Communicating with your school

During the E12 application process, we will ask you to give your consent to allow us to contact your school principal or other relevant staff.

This is because we may need to speak to them to discuss or confirm details in your application. We also need to let them know if your application has been successful.

Please note that if you do not give this consent, we will not be able to process your application.

There are more than 90 courses you can apply for through E12, so you'll have plenty of options to choose from.

Download our list of available courses (pdf, 60KB) to find the one that suits you.

To be eligible for E12, you need to be:

  • assessed by UAC, via the Educational Access Schemes (EAS) program, as experiencing financial hardship (F01A, F01B, F01C or F01D); or
  • residing at the time of your UAC application in an area identified by the Australian Bureau of Statistics as being in the lowest 30 percent of socio-economic disadvantage in Australia. For information about the Socio-Economic Indexes for Areas (SEIFA), visit the Australian Bureau of Statistics website

You also need to be:

  • undertaking the HSC or International Baccalaureate (IB) at a NSW high school
  • supported by your school principal (ratings are to be submitted in the SRS system as part of your application)
  • a domestic undergraduate student (international students are not eligible to apply)
  • meet any other additional admission criteria.

If you are not residing in an area identified by the Australian Bureau of Statistics as being in the lowest 30 percent of socio-economic disadvantage in Australia, then your offer will depend upon your acceptance into the UAC Educational Access Scheme for financial disadvantage. You need to apply for this separately.

The colleges at the University of Sydney have made it easier for E12 students to apply. Some of the colleges have waived application fees for E12 candidates whilst others have specific and generous scholarships for successful E12 students. All of the University of Sydney colleges have scholarships and financial support programs in place for eligible students and are willing to work flexibly with applicants.

Application deadlines vary between colleges, but most close in early December. It is best to apply for colleges at the same time as you are applying for uni through UAC (September).

It is very important that you advise the colleges in your application (or via a separate email) that you are an E12 student, to be considered for any concessions or specialised scholarships.
