This advanced unit explores the relationship between young people, language and society in Asia, with a particular focus on Southeast Asia and East Asia. It equips students with theoretical knowledge and analytical tools for examining language and sociocultural practices among youth in a range of contexts and their relationship with practices in wider society. Materials focusing on language in different societies in Asia will enable students to reflect critically on the complex interconnection between young people and mobility, belonging and participation within (global) communities, nations and peer-groups.
