CRIT5019 builds on the foundations laid in Major Trauma Management. The unit of study is based on real cases, with actual dilemmas and clinical pearls. It will prepare registrars for a middle-grade to senior role in a trauma service, and is also widely relevant to anyone who sees trauma patients during their daily practice. It explores the surgical, medical, psychosocial, and system-related issues in advanced trauma care. There will be a weekend skills intensive during the course. Please note that CRIT5016 is a prerequisite for CRIT5019. Trauma is a diverse and complicated speciality. For a full year of engagement with trauma, students enrolled in the Master of Surgery and Master of Medicine (Critical Care) programmes (or in Graduate Certificate and Diploma programmes) can enrol in two 6 credit point units of study: CRIT 5016 for semester 1 and CRIT 5019 for semester 2. Over the year you will develop your trauma skills from pre-hospital and basic emergency resuscitation to learning key principles of surgical, intensive care, and ward-based trauma management. If you wish to take these units without enrolling in a Master programme, you can of course enrol in CRIT 5016 and CRIT5019 as non-degree units of study.
