2025 unit information
This unit provides the students with a more advanced understanding of the factors that place an individual at risk of developing oral diseases. This unit follows on from Preventive Dentistry 1 and aims to further the students’ understanding of all the factors discussed in the earlier unit, including a literature review discussing current topics.

At the completion of this unit, you should be able to:
- LO1. provide prevention plans for children from 0 – 18 years
- LO2. understand how to prevent and control dental caries chemically by fluorides and antimicrobial agents
- LO3. possess knowledge and background in research and clinical studies in the usage of sealants and preventive restorations and minimal intervention dentistry
- LO4. determine, assess, evaluate and counsel on relevant aspects of diet in the paediatric setting, both of a preventive and therapeutic nature
- LO5. make a verbal presentation regarding caries risk.
