This second extension unit of study aims to develop students' knowledge of mathematics learning from Kindergarten to Year 12 with a focus on middle years. Students will gain a deeper understanding of the content included in the relevant syllabus documentation. The processes required to work and think mathematically will be explored in detail including problem solving and reasoning. Rich problem-solving tasks will be designed and evaluated for use in middle school classrooms. Research comparing such approaches to traditional approaches will be used to develop student teachers' beliefs about the teaching and learning of mathematics in secondary classrooms.
