This unit will introduce you to a range of theories and methods relevant to pursuing research in Germanic Studies. It will provide you with the skills you need to complete an extended academic research project, introduce you to the conventions of academic research culture, and encourage you to reflect on the place of research within wider society.

At the completion of this unit, you should be able to:

  • LO1. Critically analyse and interpret a range of primary and secondary sources in relation to analyses of German culture, history and society in clear, accurate and succinct language at appropriate levels of theoretical and methodological sophistication.
  • LO2. Construct arguments and hypotheses in response to specific research questions.
  • LO3. Undertake individual scholarly research in areas related to the Honours project.
  • LO4. Apply relevant disciplinary and methodological approaches.
  • LO5. Make informed contributions to group discussions of relevant material and provide critical and/or analytical reflections on group discussions and assignments.
