INDH5212: Health Promotion Program Planning

2025 unit information

This is the second of six sequential, interdependent modules, available only to students enrolled in the Graduate Diploma in Indigenous Health Promotion. Students will explore in detail the conceptual components of a planned health promotion initiative. This will include the theory and practice of community engagement and participation, defining and understanding the priority health issue, its risk factors and contributing factors, exploring theories and models relevant to health behaviour, identifying target groups and stakeholders, searching the literature for evidence and ideas, and resource mobilisation. Students will also be introduced to formative research and the value of developing effective partnerships.

At the completion of this unit, you should be able to:

  • LO1. access a range of information and data to develop a snapshot of the community's population
  • LO2. identify contributing factors for the community's priority health issue
  • LO3. identify medial determinants of health in the community
  • LO4. plan a health promotion program, applying relevant theories of community engagement and participation and health behaviour change
  • LO5. work collaboratively as well as independently and engage in self-directed and reflective learning.
