Anaesthesia

BVM DVM DACVAA

Dr Eduardo Uquillas graduated from the Universidad Mayor, Chile in 2007. Following graduation, he worked as a small animal clinician for 3 years, during this time he completed a post grade diploma in veterinary anaesthesia and analgesia in small animals.

In 2010 he started a residency in veterinary anaesthesia and analgesia at the University Teaching Hospital Camden (UVTHC) in cooperation with the University of Pennsylvania, which he completed in 2015.

Eduardo is based at the University Teaching Hospital Camden (UVTHC) and is the Unit Head of the Anaesthesia service.

Jessica graduated from the University of Sydney in 2012. Following graduation, Jessica worked in general practice before embarking on the journey to specialisation, completing a rotating internship and an anaesthesia internship. From 2019- 2022, Jessica completed a residency in Veterinary Anaesthesia and Analgesia at the University of Melbourne, becoming a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Anaesthesia and Analgesia in 2023.  

Jessica’s clinical interests lie in the anaesthesia of critically ill patients and trauma.  Outside of work, Jessica enjoys participating in dogs sports with her sheltie Percy and exploring themeparks around the world.

Alex PhilipRVT, VTS Anaesthesia & Analgesia

Alexander has a passion for teaching and anaesthesia. He is a Veterinary Technician Specialist in Anaesthesia and Analgesia and is in the Masters Program at Edinburgh University achieving his Masters in Veterinary Anaesthesia and Analgesia. He takes pride in educating students and staff in all disciplines as well as curating online workshops focusing on anaesthesia and patient management. Alexander has an interest in studies and writing journal articles, having presented at the World Congress. Outside of work he enjoys socialising, relaxing, reading and binge watching shows and movies.

Dermatology

BVSc (Hons) MVetStud MANZCVS (SA Medicine) Dipl. ACVD

Dr Beth McDonald is a highly qualified and experienced Veterinary Dermatologist. She holds many qualifications, including: BVSc (Hons) 1988; Master in Veterinary Studies 1993; Member, ANZCVSc in Small Animal Medicine,1994; Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Dermatology 1998 and has been a registered Specialist in Veterinary Dermatology for many years. She enjoys the challenges of clinical dermatology and supports education of both undergraduates and practicing veterinarians.

Dr McDonald has particular interests in the management of allergic dermatitis in the dog and cat; responsible use of antibiotics; autoimmune skin disease and management of diseases in our geriatric pets! Dr McDonald and her technician, Vokina Ng offer a compassionate and caring service to the community and their pets.

Diagnostic Imaging

Med.Vet. BVSc FANZCVS – Radiology

Juan graduated with a Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine in 1999 from La Plata University, Argentina. In 2002, after spending some time practicing in Argentina, Juan was granted a scholarship to work and further develop his skills in Australia.

In 2006 Juan fulfilled all requirements and passed the national veterinary examination allowing him to practice in Australia.

Juan underwent a Radiology residency at the University of Sydney and became a Fellow of the Australian and New Zealand College of Veterinary Scientists in 2015. Juan is currently an active clinical radiologist providing services to private and academic institutions and pre and postgraduate teaching in veterinary diagnostic imaging at Sydney University.

Juan has trained in MRI physics and technical applications during 2006-2007. In 2008-2009 he underwent accredited training in nuclear medicine and radiophysics with the Royal North Shore Hospital.

Juan is actively involved in clinical and academic research. His areas of interest included all aspects of musculoskeletal imaging, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and nuclear medicine. Juan has been involved in a number of publications associated with the application of MRI to improve planning and identification of musculoskeletal injury in canine and equine patients, abdomen angiography and use of nuclear medicine for skeletal disease in canine patients.

Juan currently resides in Australia with his family including his partner, two daughters and Diego (their horse). He enjoys all forms of sports, in particular football (soccer), horse riding and rugby uniontal.

BVSc (Hons 1) MANZCVS (Radiology) 

Dr Stella started her veterinary career in general practice, where she found the challenge and variety of emergency cases and radiology particularly rewarding. She then completed a rotating internship at SASH, followed by some time in the emergency service. After this, she completed a Radiology Internship and successfully passed her Radiology Membership exams.

Dr Stella spent several years in emergency and critical care (ECC), including a tenure as an ECC clinical lead, before transitioning to a teaching role at the University of Sydney. She is dedicated to enhancing the student learning experience, especially in making radiology less daunting.

She is especially passionate about imaging, with a focus on thoracic radiography and interventional radiology. She looks forward to advancing her research in these areas and contributing to the field of veterinary medicine.

BMRSc (DR)

Rachael graduated from the University of Newcastle in 2016 with a Bachelor of Medical Radiation Science (Diagnostic Radiography). Her special interests include CT and cardiac imaging. After 4.5 years of working in private practice, Rachael has followed her love for animals and has taken the leap into the animal world at UVTHS as well as working in private practice at a human radiography clinic. At home, Rachael has a Staffie X shar-pei named Indie that she loves to take bushwalking. She’s a keen sportswoman who has been playing hockey for years among other sports.

Rachael has previously volunteered at riding for the disabled and hopes to gain experience in imaging horses throughout her Veterinary Radiography career.

BSc, DVM, MANZCVS (Radiology - Large Animal)

Dr Barrett graduated with a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) from the University of Sydney in 2018 and began her career as a livestock veterinarian at the University Teaching Hospital in Camden. Dr Barrett successfully obtained her membership in Large Animal Radiology with the ANZCVS in 2025.  She intends to sit for her Small Animal Radiology membership in 2026 and pursue residency & specialisation afterwards. Her clinical interests lie in diagnostic imaging across both large and small animals, with a particular focus on radiology and ultrasonography. Dr Barrett plays a strong role in education, assisting in the coordination and delivery of imaging teaching to veterinary students across the DVM course, and is dedicated to mentoring interns and early-career veterinarians.

Outside of work Dr Barrett is an avid hiker with her dog, Sandor, and also enjoys kayaking, camping & video games.

 

Medicine

BVSc (Hons) PhD DACVIM MANZCVS FHEA

Mary graduated from the University of Sydney in and worked in companion animal practice in Sydney before completing an internship and residency in small animal internal medicine in North America. Mary has spent the last 15 years working at The University of Queensland, where she completed her PhD, and more recently (2015-2020) at Murdoch University. Her major area of research interest is bacterial urinary tract disease/colonisation of dogs and cats but she enjoys most aspects of internal medicine and working with veterinary students

Dr med vet DipECVIM-CA

Christine graduated from the Justus Liebig University, Giessen, Germany in 2003. She then completed a residency at the University of Berlin, Germany. Christine is a Senior Lecturer and Specialist in Small Animal Medicine (Diplomate ECVIM). She consults on the canine medicine service. Her main interests include haematology, endocrinology and infectious diseases. In 2020 Christine enrolled in a part time PhD investigating the re-emergence of canine leptospirosis in NSW.

BVSc CertAVP MANZCVS (SAM & FM)

Dr Chloe graduated from the University of Sydney in 2016. Passionate about continuing professional development, she has attained a Certificate of Advanced Veterinary Practice (CertAVP) from the University of Liverpool, and holds memberships in both Small Animal Medicine and Feline Medicine.

Dr Chloe practised as a General Practitioner in Hong Kong for five years before relocating to Sydney to begin a medicine residency.

Outside of work, she loves hiking, travelling, and cuddling her ginger boy, Evan, who has bravely made it through 2.5 years following his initial diagnosis of end-stage heart failure.

Dr Bruce Lamond is a 2013 University of Edinburgh graduate and  began his career working in the south of England before making the decision to move to Australia eight years ago. He has recently completed his Small Animal Medicine Residency at the Melbourne Veterinary Specialist Centre and he has a particular interest in hepatology and immune-mediated disease.

Dr Lamond's research interests include multiomics, personalised medicine, as well as diagnostic reasoning and clinical decision making.

Outside of work he can be found with his two dogs Merry & Pippin.

BSc, BVSc, MDDD, PGDipClinRes

Dr Victoria Skinner, originally from Wellington, New Zealand, began her career as a radiopharmaceutical chemist with a focus on drug development. Her passion for animal health led her to retrain in veterinary science, graduating from Massey University in 2023. Dedicated to advancing her knowledge and expertise, she spent 2024 undertaking a rotating internship at the Massey University Veterinary Teaching Hospital, starting her journey towards specialisation before joining the University Veterinary Teaching Hospital Sydney.

With a keen interest in gastroenterology and endocrinology, Dr Victoria is enthusiastic about all aspects of veterinary medicine. Outside of work, she enjoys reading, gaming, and exploring, often in the company of her beloved cats.

Surgery

BVSc DiplomateECVS PGCertVS MVCS MANZCVS PhD

Rachel graduated from the University of Sydney in 2009 and worked in general practice at various clinics in Sydney. She then started an internship at UVTHS before beginning a surgical residency. Rachel completed her memberships in small animal surgery in 2014, and finished her surgical residency at UVTHS in 2018. She successfully passed her board exams in February 2020 and is a Diplomate of the European College of Veterinary Surgeons. Rachel also completed a Masters in Veterinary Clinical Studies during her residency and a PhD focused on improving the management of feline carpal (wrist) injuries.

Rachel has written several publications in the area of feline orthopaedics and musculoskeletal imaging. She is actively involved in both clinical teaching and research. Although her area of research interest is feline orthopaedics, she enjoys all aspects of small animal surgery.

When Rachel is not at work, she enjoys gardening and spending time with her husband Bobby and her cat Prince.

DVM MVSc

Dr Melanie Olive graduated with honours from the University of Liege in Belgium in 2014. Following graduation, she started work as a small animal veterinarian in a clinic near Paris (France) where she developed an interest in Surgery.

She undertook a rotating internship followed by a surgery one at a referral hospital in Nantes (France). After that she had been an assistant professor of small animal surgery at Nantes University.

Then she completed her specialist surgical training in a busy small animal hospital in Nantes.

She enjoys all aspects of surgery but had a particular interest in soft tissue surgery.

Outside work, Melanie enjoys horse riding, diving and kitesurfing. She also enjoys spending time with her husband and their friends and off course their handsome Jack russell named Rosti.

Dr Lorenz graduated from the University of Sydney in 2006 and began her professional career working in mixed practice. Soon after, she pursued further training by completing internships in New York and Sydney. After completion of the internships, she worked as an emergency veterinarian in different Sydney referral hospitals.

She continued her specialist training at the University of Liverpool, UK, where she completed a residency program in small animal surgery from 2011-2014. Nina returned to Australia, Western Australia where she joined a private referral clinic for 18 months. Nina returned to Sydney where she was offered a clinical position at the University Small Animal Teaching Hospital from 2016 to early 2019. In 2018, Nina became a Diplomate of the European College of Veterinary Surgeons (ECVS).

From 2019 to 2020 Dr Lorenz joined one of Sydney's leading specialist hospitals as a mobile surgeon prior to relocating the Northern Rivers Region in NSW, Australia where she currently operates her own business as a mobile specialist surgeon, servicing the local hospitals.

BVSc, MANZCVS(small animal surgery)

Dr Mary Hong is a dedicated small animal veterinarian with over a decade of experience. She graduated from the University of Sydney in 2009 with a Bachelor of Veterinary Science (BVSc) and has worked in several busy veterinary hospitals across Sydney since.

Mary has always been passionate about surgery. Her strong interest led her to pursue further training and achieve Membership of the Australian and New Zealand College of Veterinary Scientists (MANZCVS) in Small Animal Surgery.

She is known for her calm and compassionate approach to patient care and client communication. Mary is also fluent in Chinese, which allows her to support a broader range of clients and ensure clear communication in their preferred language.

Outside of work, Mary is a proud mum. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time on the ski slopes, practising yoga, and exploring the outdoors.

Dr Mary brings her surgical expertise, warmth, and dedication to the teaching hospital and is passionate about delivering high-quality care to the lovely pets she treats.

BVSc (merit) MVSC MANZCVS (Small animal surgery)

Christina is a bilingual veterinarian who graduated from the University of Sydney, with over 15 years of clinical experience. After completing a rotating internship at the UVTHS, she successfully completed her membership exams in small animal surgery in 2012, before pursuing further training in surgery. In additional Christina has extensive experience running the hospital at a large welfare organisation and other busy general practices in Sydney.

Christina’s particular interests are soft tissue surgery and behavioural medicine. She believes strongly in client education and addressing both the body and mind of her patient to achieve the best clinical outcome. She is fluent in mandarin.

Through past experience training veterinary students and new graduates, Christina is passionate about helping the next generation of veterinarians be ready for the industry.

Through her Masters degree, Christina developed an interest in the use of blood products in wound/bone healing and hopes to further research into these products in clinical practice.

Outside of work Christina is a mum of two and enjoys jazz music, culinary adventures and the great outdoors.

Dr. Davis is a 2023 graduate of the University of Sydney's Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) program. Before joining UVTHS, he spent his first year as a rotating intern at another referral hospital in Sydney, while also working part-time as a general practitioner in Kogarah. His experience in general practice has provided him with invaluable clinical skills, and he has kept engaged with emergency services at various hospitals. Surgery is his true passion, and he is eager to contribute to the team and enhance the student experience.

Outside of work, Dr Davis lives with his wife and their two Star Wars cats, Lando and Solo,  They are both heavily involved in water polo, enjoy the beach, and country concerts. 

Rotating Interns

Dr Mulan is a dedicated member of the UVTHS team, currently serving as a rotating intern. After recently completing a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree at the University of Sydney, she is eager to continue advancing in this field. With eight years of experience as a veterinary nurse, primarily in referral settings, she has cultivated a strong passion for internal medicine, with particular interests in endocrinology, immune-mediated diseases, and feline medicine.

She is enthusiastic about collaborating with colleagues and learning from the diverse expertise within the UVTHS team to provide exceptional care for patients.

Dr Gray studied Veterinary Medicine at Charles Sturt University in Wagga Wagga, where she graduated with first class honours in Anaesthesia. She is currently working on her honours, which investigates urine output during major abdominal surgery as a prognostic factor.  During her degree, she also spent time in Goa, India, desexing and vaccinating street dogs. 

Dr Gray had previously been working in general practice veterinary clinics around Sydney, where she became interested in emergency and surgery. Dr Grey really enjoys teaching students, as she remembers the challenges of final year veterinary school and new graduate life well. Dr Grey relates to students and gives them practical advice for clinical decision-making. 

Outside of work, you may find Dr Gray walking her two dogs (Bindi & Sadie), swimming at the beach, bouldering or at the gym.
