Disability Inclusion Action Plan

Helping everyone to achieve their potential

The Disability Inclusion Action Plan (DIAP) 2019-24 forms part of our ongoing commitment to ensure the inclusion of people with disability and to enable everyone to achieve their full potential and capabilities at the University. The DIAP was extended to 2025 to ensure its continued progress and deeper integration of diversity and inclusion practices across the University.

Developing the Disability Inclusion Action Plan 2026-31

The University is now developing its fifth plan for 2026 to 2031. Building on the progress of previous plans, the new DIAP will set out practical actions to remove barriers, promote inclusion and embed universal design principles across our teaching, research, services, and campus environments.

DIAP objectives

The Disability Inclusion Action Plan 2019-24 (extended to 2025) is based on six practical objectives, each with a specific set of actions and outcomes.

1. The University incorporates the rights and opportunities of people with disability in all policies and planning.
2. The University of Sydney is a higher education provider of choice for all students.
3. The University is an employer of choice for people with disability.
4. The University’s communication and digital environment is accessible to everyone.
5. The University provides an accessible built environment to everyone.
6. The University provides leadership to the community in developing an inclusive Australian society.

We’re creating a culture of inclusion by supporting students with disability through targeted individual support and the adoption of Universal Design for Learning principles in the curriculum.
