Agricultural Society (AgSoc)

AgSoc is the Undergraduate Society for the Faculty of Agriculture and Environment. Each year its committee organises functions to foster the close social interaction and fun loving spirit that makes Agriculture the envy of the larger faculties. By joining AgSoc, you'll benefit from reduced prices for members at a multitude of AgSoc functions. The savings will quickly cover the cost of membership. Also, you'll receive periodic newsletters outlining the latest plans for functions, new AgSoc merchandise and any new services and benefits for AgSoc members. The executive committee would love to see the participation of any member who wishes to add their enthusiasm to help organise AgSoc. Please come along to a meeting and get involved!

There is an annual subscription for society membership. This fee entitles you to the privilege of voting and holding office, enables you to take part in the many social and sporting activities organised by the Society.

A membership card is presented to each new member.

Benefits of membership

The Society receives an annual grant from the Students' Representative Council, the size of which depends on the number of members. Membership of many faculty societies is compulsory. This is not the case in Agriculture, yet last year there was over 90% membership. This is an indication of the 'esprit de corps' for which the small and close Faculty of Agriculture and Environment is noted. The main benefits from membership of the Society are derived from participation in the various functions held throughout the year.

Special activities include the ball and dinner, which tend to be formal functions, together with barbecues, wine-tastings, harbour cruises and other informal occasions. The Society fields teams in as many of the interfaculty sports as possible. Both men's and women's sports are catered for.
