Thesis topic or title Citizens make sense in deliberative activity
Information about your thesis Ron is interested in the willingness and capacity of citizens to engage in political decision making, especially through deliberative processes in Australia and overseas. His academic and professional interest extends to many aspects of deliberative process design and the embedding of such processes in governance, including Government 2.0 initiatives that take advantage of evolving Internet technology. His thesis explores the nature of deliberation, which is often wielded as an instrumental black box. Using a methodological approach called 'Narrative Inquiry', he will be exploring how randomly selected citizens experience deliberative processes, in their own terms. The public should know more about how such 'policy jury' deliberation happens so greater trust can be attributed to it. The study site was the recently-convened Australian Citizens Parliament (http://www.citizensparliament.org.au), which Ron helped organise.
