Professor Linda Weiss

BA(Hons) Griff. PhD Lond. FASSA

Professor Linda Weiss

Linda Weiss received her PhD from the London School of Economics and is a Fellow of the Academy of the Social Sciences in Australia. She holds concurrent positions as Professor in Government and International Relations at the University of Sydney, and Honorary Professor of Political Science at Aarhus University. She has lectured widely in North America, Europe, and East Asia and has held visiting research appointments at UCLA, Cornell, the LSE, the European University Institute, University of Rome, Stockholm School of Economics, Academia Sinica, Seoul National University, and the Academia Sinica. She currently serves on the editorial boards of several international journals.

Her specialism is the comparative and international politics of economic development, with a focus on state capacity and public-private sector relations. Her work on the topics of globalisation and state power, developmental states, and trade politics has resulted in six books and numerous scholarly papers, a number of which have appeared in seven foreign language translations.

Her current research shifts the focus of earlier work from Europe and East Asia to the United States. In collaboration with a group of American scholars she is working on a Ford Foundation funded project that probes the ‘hidden’ developmental role of the American state since the end of the Cold War.
