Thesis abstract:

«p»My research interests include Islam and politics, Indonesian politics, Middle East politics, democracy and democratisasion. I am currently investigating the clientelistic relationship between candidates, voters and power brokers from religious leaders of three Pesantren in West and East Java during the 2020 Indonesian Local Election. This research uses the clientelistic relationship of the citizen-politician linkages model and religious identity in politics. It argues that Religious identity can influence clientelistic-brokerage relations and may suggest forming a new relationship with non-material exchange. Using qualitative methods, this research will analyse data gathered from literature and interviews with religious power brokers, politicians/candidates for mayors' and governors' candidacies, and voters in related electorates.«/p»
