Associate Professor Wayne Cotton

Associate Professor Wayne Cotton works in the School of Education and Social Work within the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences. His previous roles at the University of Sydney have included Lecturer (2008–2011) and Senior Lecturer (2012–2018). He has also held several senior leadership positions within the school, including HPE Program Director (2011–2013), Study Abroad and General Elective Director (2014–2015), Associate Dean of Teacher Education (2016–2019), and Director of Partnerships and Engagement (2020–2021).

During his academic career, he has focused on the design, development, implementation and evaluation of education and health initiatives. Through this process, he has developed an international reputation for outstanding research. This has resulted in Wayne and his colleagues receiving $3 million in research funding from 2008 to 2022, and a subsequent upward trending citation count (1,392 on Google Scholar) and h-index (21). Both of these metrics exceed the average citations and h-indexes for associate professors in Australia (as identified by Mazzucchelli et al., 2020). As an internationally recognised researcher in education and health, he has contributed to the field through original research and large-scale systematic reviews.
