Key Dates for Variations of Enrolment

The key dates at the beginning of the handbook set out the deadlines by which variations of enrolment should be made. The key dates are based on University policies as summarised below.

Last day to add a unit 14 March
Last day for withdrawal 31March
Last day to discontinue without failure (DNF) 18 April
Last day to discontinue (Discontinued - Fail) 6 June

Key variation dates for units running in Semester 2, 2014
Last day to add a unit 8 August
Last day for withdrawal 31 August
Last day to discontinue without failure (DNF) 12 September
Last day to discontinue (Discontinued - Fail) 31 November

Key variation dates for intensive units
Last day to withdraw from
a non-standard unit of study*
Census date of the unit
(which is not earlier than 20% of
the way through the period of time
during which the unit is undertaken).

*Students should note that the deadlines for withdrawing from intensive units of study without financial and academic penalty differ from the standard Semester 1 and 2 census dates. Intensive units are offered in block mode in sessions 1a (7), 1b (8), 2a (9) or 2b (10) or sessions 101 to 112. Deadlines for adding and withdrawing units of study are available in the session calendar on the University Timetabling web site

HECS-HELP and FEE-HELP students

  • If a student withdraws from a unit of study, the unit of study does not appear on a their academic transcript and they are not charged for that unit through the Commonwealth Supported Students (HECS-HELP) or FEE-HELP.

  • If students 'discontinue - not to count as failure' or 'discontinue - fail' a unit of study, it will appear on their transcript with the date when they made the change and the student will be charged for that unit through the HECS-HELP or FEE-HELP.

  • In some circumstances the School may allow a student to discontinue with permission for a unit of study after the relevant date (as per above) if there is evidence of serious illness or misadventure. Students should contact the Student Information Office for further information.

Local fee paying students

  • If a local student withdraws from a unit of study by the relevant date as per above, the unit of study does not appear on a their academic transcript, and they are not liable for the course fees for that unit of study.

  • If students 'discontinue - not to count as failure' or 'discontinue - fail' a unit of study, it will appear on their transcript with the date when they made the change and the student will be liable for the course fees for that unit of study.

  • In some circumstances the School may allow a student to discontinue with permission for a unit of study after the relevant date (as per above) if there is evidence of serious illness or misadventure. Students should contact the Student Information Office for further information.

International students

  • If students withdraw from a unit of study, the unit of study does not appear on their academic record. If students discontinue a unit of study, it will appear on their transcript with the date when they made the change and the student will be liable for the cost of the unit of study.

  • Students are advised to contact the International Student Office to determine if financial penalty will apply due to a variation of enrolment.

  • In some circumstances the School may allow a student to discontinue with permission for a unit of study after the relevant date (as per above) if there is evidence of serious illness or misadventure. Students should contact the Student Information Office for further information.
