Where can I get advice about writing a PhD?

Your thesis supervisor, faculty postgraduate adviser, Associate Deans in your faculty or SUPRA (Sydney University Postgraduate Representative Association) can provide you with information and resources to assist with writing a PhD.

The Institute of Teaching and Learning also has web-based resources for use by those completing the Development Program for Research Higher Degree Supervision. This includes a resource developed by the University of Queensland for research students called “First Thoughts to Finished Writing”.

What support services can I access during my postgraduate studies?

Postgraduate coursework students have access to an extensive range of support services, including learning, accommodation, health and welfare services. The postgraduate course coordinator in your faculty is also a good point of contact.

What financial assistance is available to postgraduates?

It can be a challenge to both study and fulfill financial commitments. The University of Sydney provides a range of services and options to assist, including:

  • Your Careers Centre Jobs Database
    The Careers Centre maintains a job vacancy database that includes casual, part time, full time and vacation work vacancies. Currently enrolled students can access the database with their UniKey via Your Careers Centre.
  • Paid internship programs
    There are societies and companies who operate on and around campus that can help you with finding degree-related or work experience. Visit our paid internship programs page for more information.
  • Financial Assistance Office
    Information about financial assistance that is available for any postgraduate student enrolled at the University of Sydney who is making satisfactory progress and who is experiencing genuine financial hardship can be found on the Financial Assistance Office website.
