Serving pages since 1993--the web's oldest Shakespeare site! (The comments on MIT's Shakespeare site notwithstanding, this site is the web's first edition of Shakespeare. The text is based on the same text as the MIT site but came online in October 1993, two months before the MIT site. Interestingly this was pointed out in previous correspondence.)

I picked these up some time ago from a server in England. Some of them required very minor work to be a in a consistent format--Act instead of ACT in some places, for instance--but such things have been fixed. You can browse through the list below or use the search engine to find specific phrases.

The original electronic source for this server is the Complete Moby(tm) Shakespeare, which is freely available online. You may want to read a brief note on differences (on MIT's Shakespeare server) between this version and other versions with which you you may be familiar.

Please note that I am in no way an expert on Shakespeare or his works. I am unable to answer the many (often thinly disguised) requests for help with homework, school essays or reports. This list of other sites may be of more help to you. Please don't contact me with requests like `Where does ``...'' come from?' That's why this page is here.

Plain text versions of the plays are also available at the top of each play's page. My examination of the HTML files has been cursory, please notify me of any errors/typos you may find. I have split the plays into one file per act with a table of contents (plus a full HTML version and text version) for each file.

Currently you can fetch a gzipped tar-file [2039k] of the complete plain text versions. The plain text for each play is also available from the top of each HTML page.
