Course resolutions

The course resolutions detailed in this page apply to all courses included in the table below under section 1 (course codes).

These resolutions must be read in conjunction with applicable University By-laws, Rules and policies including (but not limited to) the University of Sydney (Coursework) Rule 2014 (the 'Coursework Rule'), the Coursework Policy 2021 (the 'Coursework Policy'), the Learning and Teaching Policy 2019, the Resolutions of the Faculty, University of Sydney (Student Academic Appeals) Rule 2021, the Academic Integrity Policy 2022 and the Academic Integrity Procedures 2022. 2  Attendance pattern

(1) The attendance pattern for this course is full time or part time according to candidate choice.

(2) Visa requirements commonly restrict international students to full time study only.

3  Degree type

(1) This is a single bachelor's degree.

(1) Professional

5  Streams

(1) The Bachelor of Psychology is available in the Dalyell Stream.

(2) Completion of a stream is not a requirement of the course.

(3) Candidates wishing to transfer between streams should contact the Student Centre.

6  Faculty management

(1) This degree is managed by the Faculty of Science.

7  Admission to candidature

(1) Admission to candidature is available on two bases:

(a) direct admission on the basis of prior study as specified in subclause 7(2); or

(b) by transfer from the Bachelor of Psychology Honours.

(2) Admission is available on the basis of a secondary school leaving qualification, such as the NSW Higher School Certificate(including interstate and international equivalents), tertiary study or an approved preparation program.

(a) English language requirements must be met where these are not demonstrated by sufficient qualifications taught in English.

(b) Special admission pathways are open for mature aged applicants who do not possess a school leaving qualification, educationally disadvantaged applicants and for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander applicants.

(c) Applicants are ranked by merit according to the category of admission and offers for available places are issued according to the ranking. Details of admission policies are found in the Coursework Rule and Coursework Policy.

(d) Students who have undertaken a year 12 qualification in Australia need to achieve a Band 4 in the HSC Mathematics (not Mathematics General) or similar result in equivalent interstate year 12, IB or GCE A Level subjects or other year 12 qualifications as determined by the Admissions Committee, to be eligible for admission to the Bachelor of Psychology.

(3) Admission is available to students transferring from the Bachelor of Psychology Honours.

(a) Transferring students are eligible for credit for all units of study successfully completed as part of the Bachelor of Psychology Honours.

8  Requirements for award

(1) The units of study that may be taken for the Bachelor of Psychology are set out in:

(a) Table A for the Bachelor of Psychology;

(b) Table A for the Bachelor of Science and Bachelor of Science/Bachelor of Advanced Studies and;

(c) Table S of the shared pool of undergraduate degrees;

(d) Table O for the Open Learning Environment;

(e) For students enrolled in the Dalyell stream, Table D of the Shared Pool for Undergraduate Degrees

(2) In these resolutions, except where otherwise specified, 'Table A', 'Table S' and 'Table O' mean Table A for the degree Bachelor of Science and combined degrees, and Table S and Table O as specified here.

(3) Bachelor of Psychology degree

To qualify for the award of the degree Bachelor of Psychology, a candidate must complete 144 credit points, comprising:

(a) a 60 credit point Psychology program as listed in the Bachelor of Science and Bachelor of Science/Bachelor of Advanced Studies Table A;

(b) 6 credit points of 1000-level MATH or DATA selective units of study as listed in the Bachelor of Psychology Table A;

(c) 6 credit points of 3000- or 4000-level PSYC selective units of study as listed in the Bachelor of Psychology Table A;

(d) a 36 credit point minor as listed in Table S;

(e) 36 credit points of elective units of study from Table A of the Bachelor of Science and Bachelor of Science/Bachelor of Advanced Studies, Table S, Table O or, for students enrolled in the Dalyell Stream, Table D.

(4) Requirements for streams

(a) The requirements for the completion of the Dalyell stream are as specified in Table S of the Shared Pool for Undergraduate Degrees.

9  Progression rules

(1) Progression within a program or minor

(a) Enrolment and progression within a program or minor is governed by the progression rules specified for that component in the relevant Table.

(2) Progression within the Dalyell stream

(a) With the permission of the Dalyell coordinator, candidates in the Dalyell stream may attempt units at higher levels than the usual sequence through a program, major or minor.

(b) Candidates must achieve a Cross-Semester Average Mark (CSAM) at a level determined by joint agreement of the Deans and Heads of School and Deans of University schools of all the faculties and University schools administering degrees offering the Dalyell Stream in each year of study or over each 48 credit point block to continue in the Dalyell Stream.

(c) Candidates who do not maintain a CSAM at the level determined by joint agreement of the Deans and Heads of School and Deans of University schools of all the faculties and University schools administering degrees offering the Dalyell Stream will continue in the Bachelor of Psychology but will not remain in the Dalyell Stream.

10  Award of the degree

(1) The Bachelor of Psychology is awarded in the grade of Pass.

11  Cross-institutional study

(1) Cross-institutional study is available in this course.

12  Commencement date of these resolutions

(1) These resolutions apply to students who commenced their candidature after 1 January 2023.
