Welcome to the Tech Lounge

Entrance of Tech Lounge

The University of Sydney has worked with Microsoft to build an informal technology space in the heart of the City campuses, full of innovative learning technology.

The SciTech Library has provided space in Room 221B, Level 2 (in the JFR building, behind Subway) for a cosy common-room-style lounge which houses new computers, mobile phones and even an X-box Kinect! This new space is open for all University of Sydney students to hang out, work together in groups and experiment with new technology.

As part of the University's commitment to enhancing its learning network, the Tech Lounge was built through a shared initiative between Information and Communications Technology and the University of Sydney Library as an innovative technology zone. It is an informal, experimental space that provides students a space to study, socialise and interact with new technologies, while also improving the University's understanding of how students engage with technology outside traditional settings like classrooms and computer labs.

As a student, you can use the space to interact with innovative technologies, study, research, relax, socialise, play, and listen to music.

What will I find in the Tech Lounge?

It was designed with themes of old-style common rooms and retro, homely furnishings, but don't be fooled by those comfortable couches- the lounge comes equipped with laptop and desktop computers, X-Box consoles, mobile phones and touch-interface surface tables.

The space can be split into four areas or "zones". These are:

As a student, you can use the space to interact with innovative technologies, study, research, relax, socialise, play and listen to music.
