IPOS Biophotonics Symposium

The IPOS Biophotonics Symposium was held on Thursday 1 July and Friday 2 July 2010, at the MacLaurin Hall, The University of Sydney. The Symposium explained the new research and produced real solutions for the bio-sciences and medicine. The IPOS Biophotonics Symposium was successfully with many academics, international researchers, media and students attending. The IPOS Biophotonics Symposium was a FREE event, where food and drinks were provided.

About the Biophotonics Symposium

The 2010 IPOS Symposium is a two-day meeting focusing on Biophotonics and designed to bring together photonics and bio-science researchers from IPOS and the wider domestic and international communities. We hope to engender communication between participants to identify areas of collaboration across disciplines, with the aim of advancing research and producing real solutions in the bio-sciences and medicine.

The first day, held at MacLaurin Hall, will involve high level presentations from respected invited researchers, members of government and the University. Updates on the broader IPOS activities will also be presented.

The second day, held in the School of Physics, will involve more detailed research papers from the invited speakers and from the local research community and provide an opportunity for more practical discussions on the interface between photonics and the bio-sciences. Opportunities for discussion with the invited speakers will be readily available.

We have confirmed the following invited speakers:

Prof. Demetri Psaltis – Optics Lab, School of Engineering, Ecole Polytechnique Federale de Lausanne, CH-1015, Lausanne, Switzerland

Prof. Fiorenzo Omenetto – Dept. Biomedical Engineering, Tufts University, Medford, MA, USA

Prof. Min Gu - Faculty of Engineering & Industrial Sciences, Swinburne University of Technology, Hawthron, VIC, Australia

Dr. John Arkwright – Biomedical Fibre Sensors, Materials Science and Engineering, CSIRO, Lindfield, NSW, Australia

Prof. Holger Schmidt - Applied Optics Group, Baskin School of Engineering, University of California Santa Cruz, Santa Cruz, CA, USA

Dr. Rod Vance – Optiscan Pty. Ltd., Notting Hill, VIC, Australia

We look forward to your participation in the exciting, dynamic and
multi-disciplinary meeting!
