There are many scholarships, bursaries and cadetships available to Indigenous Australian students at the University of Sydney. These are administered by:

Scholarships offered by the Koori Centre
University of Sydney Indigenous Australian Entry Scholarship
The University of Sydney Indigenous Australian Entry Scholarships are awarded to students of Australian Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent who have obtained an Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) in the NSW Higher School Certificate (or equivalent) of 85.0 or above and who are commencing the first year of an undergraduate award course at The University of Sydney.
The Scholarship will be awarded to all students applying for admission to The University of Sydney through the Universities Admissions Centre (UAC) who fulfil the above criteria, subject to verification of eligibility.
A confirmed offer of a scholarship must be taken up by enrolment in the first year of the nominated degree or combined degree program in the year for which the offer is made. The Scholarship may be deferred for up to one year.
The value of Scholarships is $5,000 and will be paid in two equal instalments in April and September, subject to continued enrolment and maintaining satisfactory academic progress. The Scholarship is tenable for one year only.

University of Sydney Indigenous Australian Progress Scholarship
The University of Sydney Indigenous Australian Progress Scholarships are awarded to students of Australian Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent who have enrolled in an undergraduate award course at the University of Sydney as at 31st March and have completed all attempted units of study with an Annual Average Mark (AAM) of 60.0 or higher in the previous academic year, or for units of study where marks are not given, students have met the requirements of all units.
The Scholarship will be awarded to all students who fulfill the above criteria, subject to verification of eligibility.
Scholarships are awarded for study in the nominated year and no deferment of the scholarship is allowed.
Each scholarship is for one year only and is valued at $2,000.

University of Sydney Indigenous Australian Away-from-base Laptop Scholarship
The University of Sydney Indigenous Australian Away-from-base Laptop Scholarships have been established to assist students in Away-from-base programs in gaining access to computer equipment. This scholarship is awarded to students who are enrolled in an undergraduate Away-from-base course in any Faculty or Department. In order to be eligible, applicants must:
- be of Australian Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent. Indigenous identity is subject to verification by the Koori Centre or Yooroang Garang at the University of Sydney.
- complete enrolment requirements for current year of study.
- have one or more years of full-time study remaining for their course.
- attach a copy of most recent academic transcript.
Previous recipients of this award are ineligible to apply.
University of Sydney Indigenous Australian Postgraduate Scholarship
The University of Sydney Indigenous Australian Postgraduate Scholarships is awarded to students with demonstrated progression through their program of study and/or financial need. Applicants will be ranked on the basis of eligibility and academic merit.
The Scholarships are valued at $3,000 and applicants can be enrolled in full-time, part-time or Away-from-base (block-mode) programs at The University of Sydney as at 31st March. Scholarships will be awarded on a proportionate basis to part-time students.
University of Sydney Indigenous Australian Undergraduate Support Scholarship
The University of Sydney Indigenous Australian Undergraduate Support Scholarship is awarded to students with demonstrated financial need.
Applicants will be ranked on the basis of eligibility and academic merit.
The Scholarships are valued at $2,000 and applicants must be enrolled full-time in an undergraduate award course at the University of Sydney as at 31st August and demonstrate financial disadvantage by current receipt of a means-tested Commonwealth benefit.

Conference Assistance for Indigenous Australian Students
The Koori Centre has a small budget to provide Indigenous Australian students, enrolled at the University, with financial assistance to attend conferences, workshops or seminars.
- Priority will be given to students who present a paper/poster/workshop etc.
- Conferences must relate directly to a student’s area of study.
- Funding assistance is limited to $2,000.
- All successful applicants will be required to submit a one-page written report to the Koori Centre on their return from the conference.
- To ensure a fair and equitable distribution of funds, a student will only be granted assistance once each year.
The aim of this assistance is to give students the opportunity to broaden their knowledge and expertise in their chosen discipline.
International Exchange Scholarship
The Koori Centre invites applications from Indigenous Australian Students who are undertaking undergraduate or postgraduate study from all Faculties across the University.
The Scholarship is valued at $5,000 and applicants must be accepted into the International Exchange Program through the International Office of the University of Sydney.
Please note:
(i) Only one exchange is permissible during undergraduate and/or postgraduate study.
(ii) Application is for an exchange scholarship only. Students must work in collaboration with their Academic Supervisor and the International Office to arrange the exchange program.
Chancellor’s Committee Indigenous Australian Bursaries
The Chancellor’s Committee and the Koori Centre invites applications from Indigenous Australian students who are undertaking undergraduate study from all faculties across the University of Sydney, for the following Bursaries:-
- Chancellor’s Committee Indigenous Australian UG Bursary (HECS)
Available to undergraduate students who have satisfactorily completed the equivalent of one year full-time study in their current course. Four (4) HECS Bursaries, valued at $3,000 each, are offered annually.
- Chancellor’s Committee Indigenous Australian UG Bursary – First Year
Available to first year undergraduate students. Up to ten (10) bursaries, valued at $650, are offered annually.
- Chancellor’s Committee Indigenous Australian UG Bursary – Encouragement
Available to students in their second year and above. Up to five (5) encouragement awards of $650 each, are offered annually towards the costs of textbooks and study expenses.

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Scholarship
Offered to students enrolled in a full-time degree or diploma course for fees, books, study equipment and living expenses. Amount varies according to need.
Alice Mary Wingrove Bursary
This bursary is for Indigenous Australian students in any faculty and is valued at $300.
Grants from the Duncan Fund
For students enrolled in the Diploma in Education (Aboriginal) and are valued at up to $100.
Grants from the AP Elkin Fund
These are special purpose grants are for people of Aboriginal descent. The value varies according to need.
Poppy Harris Bursary
Established in 2005 the purpose of this bursary is to provide financial assistance to full-time undergraduate Indigenous Australian students who are enrolled in degree courses, making satisfactory progress, and who are in financial need. Value: up to $1000.
Robert Flloyd Marshall & Essen Marshall Scholarship
Established in 2005, the purpose of this scholarship is to provide financial assistance to full-time undergraduate Indigenous Australian students who are enrolled in degree courses, making satisfactory progress, and who are in financial need. Value: up to $2000.
Bernard Lee Scholarship for Indigenous Australian Students
This Scholarship was established in 2004 by a bequest from Mr Bernard Lee who died in 1997. To be considered for this award applicants must be an Indigenous Australian student aged less than 35 years, be enrolled in a degree course and making satisfactory progress. Value: $5000.

Residential Scholarships
Residential Colleges and some faculties of the University offer a number of part or full Scholarships to Indigenous Australian Students to cover the cost of accommodation and meals on the Camperdown campus. Funds go directly towards these costs and sometimes a small weekly allowance may also be paid to the student.

University of Sydney Business School
In 2012 the University of Sydney Business School will offer an Indigenous Australian Scholarship in partnership with the Wesley College Foundation (WCF), St Andrew's College and the Women's College to support a student studying in the Business School and residing at Wesley College, St. Andrew's College or the Women's College. Valued at $6,000 per annum for up to four years grant OR covering residential college fees at one of the partner Residential Colleges.
- Awarded annually to two students of Indigenous Australian background and based on academic merit and potential to perform well in an area of Business.
- The Scholarships are awarded toward accommodation at Women’s College, St Andrew's College or Wesley College or may be taken as a grant valued at $6,000 per annum.
- Tenable for up to 4 years (Honours year inclusive).

Indigenous Commonwealth Education Costs Scholarships (ICECS)
Scholarship for commencing Indigenous students who need help with educational costs.
Value: $2,377 (indexed annually)
Duration: Up to four years

Indigenous Commonwealth Accommodation Scholarships (ICAS)
Awarded to Indigenous students from a remote, regional or rural background, in financial need, enrolled in an undergraduate course.
Value: $4,754 (indexed annually)
Duration: Up to four years
Cannot be held with a Relocation Scholarship.

Indigenous Access Scholarships
Awarded to Indigenous students in financial need who are commencing their first undergraduate course.
Value: $4,485 (indexed annually)
Duration: One off payment.
Cannot be held with a Student Start-Up Scholarship.

The University of Sydney Access Scholarships
Awarded to students with a good ATAR or an excellent AAM who have been disadvantaged financially or medically or are from a rural or remote background. Preference will be given to students with financial disadvantage.
Value: $6,000 per annum for the duration of degree.

University of Sydney Merit Scholarships
Awarded to students with a minimum ATAR of 95 plus other achievements.
Value: $6,000 per year.
Duration: 1 year (Entry Scholarships) or duration of degree (Merit Scholarships).

Commonwealth income support for students
Centrelink will pay 2 new scholarships to students in higher education to assist with the costs of studying and living away from home. You don't need to apply for these scholarships - they will be paid directly to eligible customers.
