Conditions and responsibilities

Elective students should note that they will not be attending Sydney Medical Program small group learning sessions, although they may spend time on the wards, Grand Rounds, ward rounds and other teaching sessions.

Elective students will receive Internet access for email but will not have access to the University of Sydney Medical Education Network.

An elective student program does not correspond to that of a final year student at the University of Sydney and as such, no documentation to that effect will be signed (eg. "same rights and duties" statements).

Personal health insurance and/or travel insurance should be arranged before coming to Australia.

Concession travel on public transport is not available to elective students by NSW Government policy.

Students must book their own accommodation.

Overseas applicants should contact their nearest Australian Mission with respect to visa requirements. The location of your nearest Australian Mission, visit the page of the Department of Immigration and Citizenship: Immigration Offices Outside Australia.

It is assumed that elective students from non-English speaking countries will have an intermediate level of English proficiency before commencing an elective attachment.

During the elective an elective student may not take a leave of absence from an elective program without the permission of the Clinical School.

A non-refundable course fee must accompany the application form or it will not be processed. Payment is by Mastercard or Visa only and by completing the details on the payment form. No electronic transfer of funds is available.
