Patient Doctor Tutorials

Each week, students will have two 90 minute tutorials with their Patient Doctor tutors, one in Communication Skills and one in Examination Skills. The Examination Skills tutors will change each block as they will are specialists in the areas of the Block. In addition to these 2 x tutorials, most weeks, students will also have scheduled Procedural Skills sessions.

Timetables

Your timetable will be emailed to you each week by the student coordinator at RNSH, Hornsby or North Shore Private. In the Oncology Block, when you are at the clinical school full-time, the timetable will be on the NCS website and any changes made there or emailed to you

JMO Program

Stage 2 students are invited to take part in the JMO Program at NCS. The program involves allocating a small group of students with a JMO who has expressed interest in mentoring medical students. You arrange to meet with him/her on your clinical day to do extra practice on whatever your group feels they need - the feedback on this opportunity is very positive. The clinical school doesn’t schedule your meeting times - that is left up to the group and the JMO to arrange.
Stage 2 students will be allocated to a JMO tutor by mid-March and most students will have a JMO tutor throughout Stage 2.

Attendance

Students are required to attend ALL Patient Doctor tutorials. A permanent record of absences must be kept for each student. We expect attendance to be 100%, but naturally there may be some non-attendance due to illness etc. Tutors will keep records of your attendance and will send these to the Education Support Officer (ESO)at the end of each Block. If you are unable to attend a tutorial, please contact your ESO and your Patient-Doctor tutors.

Clinical Exercises (CEX's)

CEXs are due in by the last week of each block. The Education Support Officer for Stage 2 will advise specific dates during the year. Please refer to the Compass website for more information on CEXs.
