As a research student in the School of Public Health, email is your lifeline, a key source of information and just about the only means the student representatives have to get in touch with you. If you aren't based in the Edward Ford Building, it is even more important to get email set up as it can be a great way of keeping in touch and preventing you from becoming isolated.
To ensure that you are contactable, and receive all important information, it is essential that you are issued with, and set-up, your email account and join the School's email lists ASAP.
To get and set-up a School of Public Health email account, please contact:

The University also issues free web-based email accounts at enrolment. You can find information about your University email account and other services on the intranet. Emails from this account can be forwarded to your Public Health email address and/or other email accounts - see the IT Assist website for set-up instructions.
Note: IF YOU USE AN EMAIL ACCOUNT OTHER THAN YOUR UNIVERSITY OF SYDNEY ACCOUNT, PLEASE MAKE SURE THAT YOU REDIRECT YOUR UNIVERSITY EMAIL ADDRESS TO YOUR OTHER ACCOUNT. OTHERWISE, YOU WILL MISS OUT ON VITAL INFORMATION!
If you don't have web access outside of the School at present you can set it up via an extro account (not free but low rates) - see the IT Assist website for further information.
As a research student you should be listed on the School's email lists. There a few different email lists in the School and negotiating them can get a bit confusing. Basically there are four you need to be aware of:
This is the absolute must-be-on list. Make sure you're on it and check with your research student mates to make sure you're getting the emails (you can never be too sure). Feel free to send mail to it - anything from cries for help to invitations to drinks after work are appropriate. To check if you are on the list contact .
This list has all the e-mail addresses of everyone based in the Edward Ford building (A27) and is generally used to advertise farewell morning teas and such. You should be on it by virtue of being on the research-students list but check - it may not happen automatically.
This list includes everyone based in the School of Public Health, all of the staff that are located off site and all associates of the School. This is a seriously large number of people. You should be on this (again via the research-students list and again check). However you probably don't want to send to it - before you do ask yourself whether the Australian Centre for Agricultural Health and Safety in Moree need to know that there's cake left over from morning tea in the common-room fridge - the answer is probably no.
This list has all the e-mail addresses of all the Research staff at School - it might be useful for Research Assistant job-seeking.
