Health Technology Assessment

In conjunction with researchers at the NHMRC Clinical Trials Centre, University of Sydney, researchers from the heconomics/research/econevaluation/surgery.phpSchool of Public Health are involved in conducting health technology assessments for the Australian Medical Services Advisory Committee; we are involved in the analysis of costs, financial implications and cost-effectiveness of new technologies under this process. The principal role of the Medical Services Advisory Committee (MSAC) is to advise the Australian Minister for Health and Ageing on evidence relating to the safety, effectiveness and cost-effectiveness of new medical technologies and procedures. This advice informs Australian Government decisions about public funding for new and in some cases existing medical procedures and tests.
