NSW & Northern Territory

The core business of the Poche Centre includes the development of sustainable models of service delivery for Aboriginal communities. The Centre will also contribute to addressing gaps and priorities in clinical service delivery via existing support for practitioners, and the facilitation of regular clinical visits from primary care providers, medical specialists, nurses, midwives, dentists and allied health professionals.

The Centre has established relationships with identified partner regions and services in western NSW and the Northern Territory including:

  • Supporting Anyinginyi Health Aboriginal Corporation in Tennant Creek for the Barkly region
  • Supporting the provision of cardiology outreach to Tennant Creek
  • Research and training collaboration with Baker IDI, Alice Springs
  • Supporting Aboriginal Health Services in the Bila Mujii (Upper sector consortium)
  • School of Rural Health (Dubbo)
  • Family Planning NSW
  • Greater Western Area Health Service
  • Royal Flying Doctor Service
  • Regional Development Australia Orana
  • NSW Health

The Poche Centre is providing bi-monthly clinical visits to western NSW for dental and oral health services, cardiologists, ultrasonographers and physiotherapy. To date 300 patients have been seen. In 2010 the models for service delivery will be evaluated and ways forward developed.

A planning meeting held in December 2009 with services in western NSW identified key priority areas for 2010 as being maternal and infant/child health and orthopaedics.
