Project
Comparative digestive physiology and health of free range broiler and conventional broiler.
Free range broiler production is really in its infancy in Australia however latest data shows production is rapidly increasing, in 2006 free range broiler production was 4% and today is around 15% of total broiler production. This rapid grow and infancy outcomes demonstrate poorer bird performance, high feed conversion and mortality as a result of possible mixture of problems such as digestive health, strong coccidiosis and dysbacteriosis challenge, nutritional inadequacy and unknown pasture consumption. In consequence of high FCR and high mortality we are facing with serious economical loses and animal welfare issues in comparison to conventionally reared broilers. This project will examine difference of digestive physiology and health of free range broiler and conventional broilers.
