The Major Histocompatibility Complex (MHC) of the black flying fox (Pteropus alecto) and the in vitro response to virus infection.
MHC class I and II molecules play an important role in the immune response to viral infection, presenting endogenous and exogenously derived peptides to cytotoxic and helper T cells respectively. Due to their role in presenting viral peptides to T cells, MHC molecules are also the target of viral evasion mechanisms, and can be down-regulated following viral infection. This project will examine the diversity and repertoire of the MHC in P. alecto and the transcription of classical MHC class I genes following viral infection.
