DVM Graduate Entry Requirements

Admission to the Doctor of Veterinary Medicine is based on the following criteria:

  1. Grade Point Average (GPA) from a completed Bachelor's degree, minimum credit average required*
  2. Completion of the Doctor of Veterinary Medicine Supplementary Application Form
      2.1 Demonstrated successful completion of pre-requisite units – attaching certified copy of official transcript and the unit of study outlines for each subject.
      2.2 Demonstrated completion of work experience (minimum of 28 days of relevant work experience and animal handling experience). You will also be required to outline your Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Experience in detail.
      2.3 Completion of statements relating to the development of your interest in Veterinary Medicine, your preparation for a professional program, what you offer to the profession and your career goals and objectives.
      2.4 References from four referees. Applicants will be required to organise reference evaluations from at least four referees. Details and templates reference reports can be found on page 5 - 9 of the supplementary application form. Important note: Note: Referee reports must be sent directly from the referee to the Faculty –
  3. Demonstration of English language proficiency (University of Sydney English requirements)

*These are the minimum admission requirements for the DVM. As entry to this course is highly competitive, students who meet the minimum requirements are then ranked according to academic performance and admission statement.

Inherent requirements
In addition to the academic requirements set out in the Faculty Handbook, you will be required to satisfy a number of inherent requirements to complete this course. Please review the Inherent Requirements for Veterinary Medicine before completing your application.

Application Dates

International Applications for 2017 DVM will open on 11 May 2016 and close on 15 September 2016.

International applicants can lodge online via the University website, or if you are from the USA you can apply via the Veterinary Medical College Application Service (VMCAS). Please note, if applying through VMCAS, you do not need to complete the Supplementary Application Form. For 2017 commencement VMCAS Application deadline is September 15, 2016 at 12 midnight Eastern Time.

Domestic applications for 2017 DVM will open on 11 May 2016 and close on 15 September 2016.

Late applications will not be accepted.

All applications must be lodged online via the University website.


Applicants from the United States of America are able to apply directly to the University of Sydney, or via the Veterinary Medical College Application Service (VMCAS).
