DVM Graduate Entry Requirements

Admission to the Doctor of Veterinary Medicine is based on the following criteria:

  1. Grade Point Average (GPA) from a completed Bachelor's degree, minimum credit average required*
  2. Successful completion of pre-requisite units
  3. Doctor of Veterinary Medicine Admission Statement including a minimum of 28 days of relevant work experience and animal handling experience, using the DVM Supplementary Application form available for download from this website (available shortly).
  4. Demonstration of English language proficiency (University of Sydney English requirements)

*These are the minimum admission requirements for the DVM. As entry to this course is highly competitive, students who meet the minimum requirements are then ranked according to academic performance and admission statement.

Inherent requirements
In addition to the academic requirements set out in the Faculty Handbook, you will be required to satisfy a number of inherent requirements to complete this course. Please review the Inherent Requirements for Veterinary Medicine before completing your application.

Application Dates

International Applications for 2017 DVM will open on 11 May 2016 and close on 15 September 2016.

International applicants can lodge online via the University website, or if you are from the USA you can apply via the Veterinary Medical College Application Service (VMCAS). Please note, if applying through VMCAS, you do not need to complete the Admissions Statement. For 2017 commencement VMCAS Application deadline is September 15, 2016 at 12 midnight Eastern Time.

Domestic applications for 2017 DVM will open on 11 May 2016 and close on 15 September 2016.

Late applications will not be accepted.

All applications must be lodged online via the University website.

Applicants from the United States of America are able to apply directly to the University of Sydney, or via the Veterinary Medical College Application Service (VMCAS).
