A portfolio presents a sample of your screen work and filmmaking experience, and your creative interests and practice. It helps us understand the kind of fillmaker you want to be, and how this aligns with the Master of Film and Screen Arts (MFSA) program.
Submit your portfolio as a single PDF document, labelled with your name, containing the following:
You can include up to five films, as long as you have performed a Key Creative Role (Writer, Director, Producer, Cinematographer, Editor, Production Design, SFX/graphics, Sound Recording/Sound Design, Animator, one or more of the above) in each film.
If you have made a variety of films in different key creative roles, select the films that best demonstrate the depth and breadth of your experience.
Preference more recent films you have worked on.
Please note: we do not accept unproduced scripts, storyboards or shot-lists in place of finished films.
For each film link you supply in your Portfolio PDF, include a one-paragraph statement explaining what the work is about, the Key Creative Role you performed on the work, the challenges you faced making the work, and what you learned in the process.
Be honest and constructive: if you are not completely satisfied with the finished work, explain how it might have been improved. If the work succeeded in meeting your expectations, describe how.
It is helpful, when describing what the work is about, to also include your reasons for making the work or contributing to it, as this helps us understand your motivations as a filmmaker.
Your personal video (30 secs-1 min) helps us get to know a little about you.
We’re interested in why you want to study in the MFSA, what kind of filmmaker you’d like to be, what technical, creative or narrative skills and techniques you’d like to learn more about, and what making screen stories means to you, as a person and an artist.
It’s also your chance to tell us more about yourself – your hobbies, interests, who you are, what you like – anything you feel like sharing, to help us understand how the MFSA might work for you.
Please remember, it is important not to read out a statement for this video. Just talk to the camera, see it as a casual, personal introduction.
You may upload your portfolio for the MFSA as part of your online application to the University by the application deadline.
