Enabling excellence in biomedical research

Sydney Imaging is at the forefront of biomedical research, offering a wide range of cutting-edge imaging techniques and technical expertise to support your research journey from preclinical to clinical stage. Our state-of-the-art facilities and dedicated team are committed to helping you unlock the full potential of your research and achieve ground-breaking discoveries in healthcare and medical research.

Sydney Imaging is an official node of the National Imaging Facility network.

Sydney Imaging is more than just a research facility; it's a collaborative hub that brings together researchers and clinicians to tackle the most pressing questions in healthcare and medical research. As one of the University of Sydney's Core Research Facilities, we are strategically located at the University's Brain and Mind Centre and the Charles Perkins Hub, providing proximity to key institutions like the Institute of Academic Surgery, the Marie Bashir Institute, and Sydney's Royal Prince Alfred Hospital. We also have preclinical imaging and clinical imaging equipment at the Royal North Shore Hospital / Kolling site.

These prime locations allow us to address significant healthcare challenges, such as neurodegeneration, diabetes, obesity, cardiovascular disease, child development, mental health, and aging. We are dedicated to translating vital research discoveries into long-term societal and economic benefits.

With specialised branches dedicated to both preclinical and clinical research, Sydney Imaging is structured to provide essential support for local, national, and global research partners in achieving their most ambitious research objectives. Our flagship Hybrid Theatre, designed to accommodate robotic surgery and image-guided surgical technologies, underscores our commitment to facilitating fundamental and translational research outcomes.

As an official node of the National Imaging Facility, Sydney Imaging offers access to advanced preclinical and clinical instruments, including Micro PET and Total Body PET. Additionally, our NIF Research Fellows support the research community by assisting with project design, project management, staff and student training, and data analysis.

Sydney Imaging’s mission is to enable biomedical research excellence by providing advanced imaging capabilities, expert advice, and a collaborative research environment. We aim to enhance the University of Sydney’s position as a global leader in biomedical imaging by advancing translational research, delivering specialised training, and fostering strategic partnerships with academia and industry.
