Evidence of Confirmation of Placement

To provide confirmation of your placement for the Faculty of Medicine and Health Equity Rural Placement Travel Scholarship, please log in to Sonia, navigate to the Forms section, and select the 2026 FMH Rural Travel Scholarship Placement form.

This form will generate a letter confirming your placement, which must be submitted as part of your application. Please note that applications without this confirmation letter will not meet the eligibility criteria.

Who's eligible

You must:

  • be a domestic student
  • be undertaking a mandatory placement as part of your course, in a location classified as rural under the Rural, Remote and Metropolitan Area (RRMA) system or the Modified Monash Model (MMM 3–7).
  • be receiving a means-tested income support payment from Centrelink (or another Commonwealth provider).

Background

This scholarship was established in 2025 with the aim of providing financial support to students pursuing mandatory coursework placements in a rural location within the Faculty of Medicine and Health at the University of Sydney.

1. Background

a. This Scholarship was established in 2025 with the aim of providing financial support to students undertaking a mandatory coursework placement within the Faculty of Medicine and Health at the University of Sydney.

b. This Scholarship has been funded by the Faculty of Medicine and Health, University of Sydney.

2. Eligibility

a. Applicants must be currently enrolled full-time in one of the following coursework degrees  within the Faculty of Medicine and Health at the University of Sydney.

I. Bachelor of Applied Science (Diagnostic Radiography)

II. Bachelor of Applied Science (Exercise and Sport Science)

III. Bachelor of Applied Science (Exercise Physiology)

IV. Bachelor of Applied Science (Occupational Therapy)

V. Bachelor of Applied Science (Physiotherapy)

VI. Bachelor of Applied Science (Speech Pathology)

VII. Master of Diagnostic Radiography

VIII. Master of Exercise Physiology

IX. Master of Occupational Therapy

X. Master of Physiotherapy

XI. Doctor of Physiotherapy

XII. Master of Speech Language Pathology

XIII. Master of Nutrition and Dietetics.

b. Applicants must be currently enrolled in any Unit of Study session code for Semester 1 or 2 as per the application form

c. Applicants must be a domestic student.

d. Applicants must be able to demonstrate they are receiving a means-tested income support payment from Centrelink (or another Commonwealth provider).

e. Applicants must be undertaking a mandatory New South Wales rural placement as part of their award course requirements. The placement location must be in a New South Wales rural classified location under the Rural, Remote and Metropolitan Area (RRMA) system and not in one of the following five Local Health Districts (LHDs):

i. Murrumbidgee Local Health District (MLHD) (City of Albury LGA only)

ii. Central Coast Local Health District (CCLHD)

iii. Hunter New England Local Health District (HNELHD)

iv. Illawarra Shoalhaven Local Health District (ISLHD)

v. Nepean Blue Mountains Local Health District (NBMLHD) (Lithgow LGA only)

f. Applicants must provide written confirmation of their placement from the Faculty of Medicine and Health (FMH) Student Placements team in their application.

g. Applicants who have accepted any other placement scholarship for the same year administered by the University are not eligible to apply for this Scholarship under the same award course in the same calendar year.

3. Selection Criteria

a. The scholarship is awarded to domestic students who can demonstrate financial hardship by providing evidence of receiving a means-tested income support payment from Centrelink (or another Commonwealth provider). Eligible payments include: ABSTUDY, Austudy, Youth Allowance, Disability Support Pension, Parenting Payment (Single) & Carer Payment.

b. The Scholarship will be awarded by the Associate Dean Education of the Faculty of Medicine and Health, or their nominated delegate(s).

4. Value

a. The Scholarship is valued up to $3,000 ($320 per week for each week of the placement, capped to $3,000). The value of the Scholarship will be indicated in the offer letter.

b. The Scholarship will be paid as a one-off payment on receipt of the Scholarship Acceptance form.

c. Deferral of the Scholarship is not permitted.

d. The Scholarship will be offered subject to the availability of funds.

e. No other amount is payable.

5. Ongoing eligibility

a. None apply.

6. Termination

a. The Scholarship will be terminated if the recipient:

i. withdraws from an eligible course or fails to enrol,

ii. withdraws from the mandatory placement,

iii. commences part-time study without prior approval

iv. withdraws from the purpose for which the Scholarship was awarded,

v. does not maintain satisfactory academic performance, or

vi. is determined by the University to be guilty of serious misconduct, including, but not limited to, having provided false or misleading information as part of their Scholarship application.

b. Once the Scholarship has been terminated, it will not be reinstated unless the termination was due to University error.

c. Where a student is found guilty of serious misconduct or the Scholarship is terminated under any instance in the Termination Clause of these terms and conditions, the University reserves the right to request that any Scholarship funds paid to the Scholarship recipient be reimbursed.
