Course resolutions

The course resolutions detailed in this page apply to all courses included in the table below under section 1 (course codes).

These resolutions must be read in conjunction with applicable University By-laws, Rules and policies including (but not limited to) the University of Sydney (Coursework) Rule 2014 (the 'Coursework Rule'), the Coursework Policy 2021 (the 'Coursework Policy'), the Learning and Teaching Policy 2019, the Resolutions of the Faculty, University of Sydney (Student Academic Appeals) Rule 2021, the Academic Integrity Policy 2022 and the Academic Integrity Procedures 2022. 2  Attendance pattern

(1) The attendance pattern for this course is full-time or part-time according to candidate choice.

(2) Visa requirements commonly restrict international students to full time study only.

3  Degree type

(1) This is a single bachelor's degree.

5  Streams

(1) The Bachelor of Psychology is available in the following stream:

(a) Dalyell

(2) Completion of a stream is not a requirement of the Bachelor of Psychology. The requirements for the completion of the Dalyell Stream are as specified in Table D of the Shared Pool for Undergraduate Degrees and Part 8 of these resolutions.

6  Faculty management

(1) Students in this course will be under the general supervision of the Faculty of Science.

(2) The Dean of the Faculty of Science shall exercise authority in any matter concerned with this course not otherwise dealt with in these resolutions.

7  Admission to candidature

(1) Admission to candidature is available on two bases:

(a) Direct admission on the basis of prior study as specified in subclause 7(2); or

(b) By transfer from the Bachelor of Psychology Honours.

(c) Students who were enrolled in the Bachelor of Psychology prior to 2023 may early exit with the award of this degree if award requirements for this degree are met.

(2) Admission to this course is available on the basis of a secondary school leaving qualification such as the NSW Higher School Certificate (including interstate and international equivalents), tertiary study or an approved preparation program.

(a) English language requirements must be met where these are not demonstrated by sufficient qualifications taught in English.

(b) Special admission pathways are open for mature aged applicants who do not possess a school leaving qualification, educationally disadvantaged applicants and for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander applicants.

(c) Applicants are ranked by merit according to the category of admission and offers for available places are issued according to the ranking. Details of admission policies are found in the Coursework Policy.

(3) Admission is available to students transferring from the Bachelor of Psychology Honours.

(a) Transferring students are eligible for credit for all units of study successfully completed as part of the Bachelor of Psychology Honours.

8  Requirements for award

(1) The units of study that may be taken for the Bachelor of Psychology are set out in:

(a) Table A for the Bachelor of Psychology; and

(b) Table A for the Bachelor of Science and Bachelor of Science and Bachelor of Advanced Studies; and

(c) Table S of the Shared Pool for Undergraduate Degrees; and

(d) Table O for the Open Learning Environment;

(e) For students enrolled in the Dalyell Stream, Table D of the Shared Pool for Undergraduate Degrees.

(2) To qualify for the award of the Bachelor of Psychology, a student must complete 144 credit points, comprising:

(a) 60 credit point Psychology program as listed in the Bachelor of Science and Bachelor of Science and Bachelor of Advanced Studies Table A; and

(b) 6 credit points of 1000-level MATH or DATA Selective units of study as listed in the Bachelor of Psychology Table A; and

(c) 6 credit points of 3000- or 4000-level PSYC Selective units of study as listed in the Bachelor of Psychology Table A; and

(d) A 36 credit point minor as listed in the Bachelor of Science Table A, or Table S; 

(e) 36 credit points of Elective units of study from the Bachelor of Science and Bachelor of Science and Bachelor of Advanced Studies Table A, Table S, Table O or, for students enrolled in the Dalyell Stream, Table D.

(3) Requirements for streams

(a) The requirements for the completion of the Dalyell Stream are as specified in Table S of the Shared Pool for Undergraduate Degrees.

9  Satisfactory progress

(1) Progress within a major, minor, stream, program, or Honours component:

Enrolment and progress for each candidate for a major, minor, stream, program, or Honours component is governed by progression rules specified in the relevant Table for the component.

(2) Progress within the Dalyell Stream

(a) With the permission of the Dalyell coordinator, students in the Dalyell Stream may attempt units at higher levels than the usual sequence through a program, major or minor.

(b) Students must achieve a Cross-Semester Average Mark (CSAM) at a level determined by joint agreement of all the faculties and University schools administering degrees offering the Dalyell Stream in each year of study or over each 48 credit point block to continue in the Dalyell Stream.

(c) Students who do not maintain a CSAM at the level determined by joint agreement of all the faculties and University schools administering degrees offering the Dalyell Stream will continue in the Bachelor of Psychology but will not remain in the Dalyell Stream.

(d) Students enrolled in the Dalyell Stream who do not satisfy requirements for the Dalyell Stream but who otherwise meet requirements for the award course in which they are enrolled will graduate from the award course without the Dalyell Stream.

10  Award of the degree

The Bachelor of Psychology is awarded in the grade of Pass.

11  Cross-institutional study

Cross-institutional study is available in this course.

12  Transitional provisions

These resolutions apply to students who commenced their candidature after 1 January 2024.
