Support for students who are pregnant

We are committed to providing a range of support for students who are pregnant.

The University works hard to ensure its students are supported and can have their unique needs addressed. If you are pregnant and are experiencing difficulties with your studies, we can offer help and assistance as outlined on this page.

Short-term impacts

Pregnancy often has short term impacts especially in the first trimester. If you are experiencing minor impacts on your attendance or completing assessment tasks within expected time frames, you can apply for special consideration or a simple extension.

You will need to provide one of the following documents accompanied by relevant supporting documents:

  • professional practitioner certificate indicating that the pregnancy has impacted your ability for the specified period of time
  • a statutory declaration indicating how the pregnancy has impacted your ability to meet your course requirements within the specified period of time.

How to apply for special consideration

Our special consideration and special arrangements process is here to support you in situations where you are affected by exceptional circumstances or essential commitments that impact your academic performance.

Complications and contraindications of pregnancy

You can register with Inclusion and Disability Services if you are pregnant and:

  • have medical conditions that have occurred as a result of being pregnant
  • this will prevent you from engaging in activities that are a requirement of your course.

Our team will work with you to develop an individualised academic plan, outlining your support needs for the semester. This will avoid you needing to re-apply for special consideration for each academic assessment.

Please direct any questions to the Inclusion and Disability Services team.

How to apply to register with Inclusion and Disability services

By registering with Inclusion and Disability Services, students who have a disability can gain access to the adjustments and services they need to succeed in their studies.
