There are many sustainability focused student societies to get involved with! If membership isn’t right for you now, make sure you keep an eye out for events and meetings hosted by these groups around the year.
A joint partnership between the USU and SRC host a FoodHub pantry on level 3 of the Wentworth Building (G01). The FoodHub provides free food and other essential items to University of Sydney students who are struggling with finances or food insecurity. It’s open Monday to Friday, 11 am - 2 pm to all current students.
Sustainability and food insecurity are deeply interconnected, as creating resilient and sustainable food systems is essential to ensuring equitable access to nutritious food for all while protecting the environment. Get carbon literate and dive deep into climate change. You’ll earn an internationally recognised certification for your efforts. This one-day training, with some prep and post work, runs monthly. Sign up for a session that fits your schedule via the Sustainability at Sydney’s Get Involved page.
This change and engagement program runs across semester 1 and 2, but you can work at your own pace doing as many or as little actions as suits. Get access to a toolkit of achievable sustainable actions to work through, meet people, win prizes and a letter of completion at the end of the program. Got a sustainable idea for campus? Apply to the Student Life General Grants stream and you could be supported and awarded with up to $2,500 to bring your idea to life! Sustainable grants awarded in the past have included: a sustainable careers fair, a mend it workshop, balcony gardening workshops, research on attitudes towards sustainability and native bee habitats.
