TEDxSydney 2017 is changing its venue and expanding its calendar as it embraces this year's 'unconventional' theme.
TEDxSydney 2017 is the annual melting pot for Australia’s creative and innovative community of thinkers and doers. It is where ideas, theories and inventions are showcased and attendees come to engage with unconventional wisdom.
The University of Sydney has been partnering with TEDxSydney since 2012.
Together with St George Bank the University returns as a principal partner this year. The University leads the partnership for the Youth event, supporting the growth of the important youth demographic in the TEDxSydney community.
As a partner the University is lending its support to a new-look TEDxSydney, enabling its move to a new home at the ICC Sydney where the live audience capacity will be doubled, compared to previous years.
The event is also expanding from one-day to a year-round calendar of events, including June’s flagship event, an inaugural standalone TEDxYouth@Sydney event in September and a series of intimate evening salons held throughout 2017 and 2018.
“It is testament to our unique approach to partnerships that four major sponsors of 2016 have all returned in 2017”, says Cassandra Kevin, Head of Partnerships at TEDxSydney.
“But it requires these brands to have the foresight and bravery to reach beyond the industry staples of logo placement and old fashioned marketing. Our partnerships are ideas-driven, multi-layered, experiential and strategically aligned – and the data tells us that this more sophisticated approach, leads to unparalleled levels of engagement for our partners with the audience, their peers and corporate guests.
Dr Michael Spence, Vice-Chancellor, The University of Sydney, said: “The University of Sydney excels at bringing researchers from a range of disciplines together to solve real-world problems including at the Charles Perkins Centre, the China Studies Centre and the Australian Institute for Nanoscale Science and Technology.
“Our partnership with TEDxSydney, and in particular in taking the Youth Partnership, is a perfect match, as we share a belief in the power of education and the importance of engaging people from diverse perspectives to make a difference.”
The 8th annual TEDxSydney, to be held on 16 June 2017 will be a full day event that blends talks, music performances and films.
