The design of new products and services is the central activity of engineering. Research in this area advances the design of engineered products and services and new tools and methods for designing. The modes of research include: empirical studies of engineering design methods; devising new designs to uncover new design tools, methods, and knowledge applicable to a broad range of engineered products and services; and improving an existing engineered product as a means for generating new knowledge about how an engineered product should be designed.
Masters/PHD
Students will have opportunity to publish in the following representative conferences: International Conference on Engineering Design (ICED), American Society of Mechanical Engineers International Conference on Design Theory and Methodology (DTM) and Design Automation (DAC), Creativity and Cognition (C&C), and Design Computing and Cognition (DCC). Journal outlets include: Research in Engineering Design, Journal of Engineering Design, Journal of Mechanical Design, Design Studies, Artificial Intelligence for Engineering Design, Analysis, and Manufacturing, CoDesign, and International Journal of Design Creativity and Innovation.
