Belief can affect the way we view our illness and can be prominent in both psychiatric disorders and non-psychiatric disorders. This project will aim to improve our understanding of belief in a range of disorders with the aim of improving diagnosis and providing suggestions for managing patients with high levels of belief conviction.

This project will involve clinical research aiming to improving the way that belief is assessed across a range of medical disorders within a large hospital complex.
The Nepean Belief Scale (NBS) is a clinician-rated instrument that can be used to assess belief. Although first developed for use in obsessive-compulsive disorder, the NBS has also been used in psychotic disorders, depression and anorexia nervosa.
