Sydney University’s Phil Waugh, Dean Mumm and Luke Burgess were announced as part of the Wallabies Squad for the 2009 Bundaberg Rum Rugby Series yesterday, 21st May.

Mumm was selected after an extremely strong season with the Waratahs, in which he started in all 13 matches, appearing as a lock on 11 occasions, and twice on the blindside flank.

Burgess also had an extremely successful Super 14 season starting as the Waratah’s halfback and scoring the first try of his Super Rugby career from an intercept during New South Wales’ historic 27-22 win over the Blues at Eden Park.

Waugh was expected to be a controversial axing when the 30-man Australian squad was announced. However, his selection in the Barbarians side to play against the England in the up-coming weeks cemented his selection in the Wallabies.

Amidst these International sections Sydney Uni Football Club (SUFC) are keen to see the gentlemen play in the ‘Blue and Gold’, especially at home games on the university’s historic No. 1 oval.

All three gentlemen are currently studying within the Economics & Business Faculty at the University of Sydney and are postgraduate scholarship holders.

This scholarship initiative of Sydney Uni Sport & Fitness, with the support of the Facility of Economics & Business, aims to assist the sporting and academic goals of elite athletes undertaking postgraduate Economics & Business coursework programs at the University of Sydney.
